Unlike your natural teeth, dental implants aren’t affected by tooth decay.
What Is a Frenectomy?
A frenectomy is a minor oral surgical procedure that removes or releases a restrictive frenulum. A frenulum is a small band of connective tissue that attaches one part of the mouth to another.
The two most common types include:
Tongue-Tie (Lingual Frenulum)
The lingual frenulum connects the underside of the tongue to the floor of the mouth. When this tissue is too short, thick, or tight, it can limit tongue mobility. This condition is known as tongue-tie, or ankyloglossia. (phillipsoralsurgery.com)
Lip-Tie (Labial Frenulum)
The labial frenulum connects the upper lip to the gums above the front teeth. When it is overly restrictive, it can interfere with lip movement, breastfeeding, oral hygiene, and even contribute to spacing between the front teeth. (phillipsoralsurgery.com)
A frenectomy releases these restrictions, allowing for improved movement and function.
