Sinus Lifts in Dawsonville, GA
Did you know…
Sinus lifts are usually needed when a patient is missing their rear
molars and suffer from bone loss.
Our Sinus Lift Process: What To Expect
Consultation
We will take panoramic x-rays of your jaw to assess your bone density
and the height of your sinuses to determine if you’re a good candidate for a sinus lift.
Pain Relief & Sedation Options
To prevent you from feeling any pain during the procedure, we will
administer local anesthesia that will numb your mouth. Sedation is
also available for anxious patients who wish to have reduced awareness or be unconscious.
Oral Surgery
An incision is made into the gum tissue to reveal the underlying jawbone. Then, we will cut a window into the jawbone and lift the bone to reveal access to the sinus cavity.
Sinus Lift
The sinus membrane is lifted, increasing the height between your jawbone and sinuses.
Bone Graft
After lifting the sinus membrane, the space in between is filled with a bone graft.
Sutures
The gums are then repositioned and sutured shut.
Aftercare
The healing process can take 4 to 6 months before you can receive dental implants. Your oral surgeon will provide you with aftercare instructions and what to expect during your recovery.
Benefits Of a Sinus Lift
Restores Bone Support
There are so many reasons why a patient may be
suffering from bone loss, including tooth loss, gum disease, oral trauma, teeth grinding, a misaligned
bite, or years of wearing dentures. Not only will a sinus lift restore this missing bone support, but
it will prevent future bone loss.
Creates Support for Implants
Dental implants are the best way to replace
missing teeth. They prevent bone loss, prevent the teeth from shifting, and they look, feel, and
function like real teeth. However, having sufficient bone density and height is crucial to be a good
candidate for dental implants.
If your bone has resorbed or if your sinus cavity is naturally
too low, there won’t be enough bone for the implants to fuse with. By raising the sinuses and
replacing the missing bone with grafting material, you can become eligible for life-long tooth
restorations of superior quality.
Improves Appearance
Bone loss has considerable consequences beyond
not being able to support dental implants. It can take a toll on your facial appearance by reducing
the support in the muscles around your mouth. This can cause your face to sag, making you look older
than you are. Over time, the changes to your facial appearance worsen and can cause facial features to
collapse. A sinus lift procedure and dental implants will prevent this.
Restores Oral Function
Bone loss can also take a toll on oral
functions, making it more difficult to bite or chew your food or pronounce certain sounds.
